Well tPt Community, I just ordered a 5 gallon tank from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tetra-Aqua...-Pets/12177653
I have just enough space for this 5g and it would be nice to have a second setup (I also have a 10g). It won't be here for at least a week (probably) but I'm curious on how should I set it up/stock it.
I'm going to replace the incandescent bulb with a spiral flourescent light between 10-20 watts. That'll give me anywhere from 2-4 watts per gallon (I know you could do the math but I wanted to make it easy).
I'll be doing DIY C02 with a 1Liter bottle. I've already got a 2L setup on my 10g my biggest project will be finding an efficient diffuser. I'll be trying cigarette filters hopefully sometime this week and if that doesn't work chopsticks (I have a cheap airstone but it doesn't seem to work all that well).
I'll be using fine gravel along with root tabs for supplement. eventually I may experiment with a dirted tank but that'll probably be a summer adventure.
I am still trying to decide on what I want to stock it with. I have an order of 15 Red Cherry Shrimp coming later this week that will be going into the 10 gallon betta/neon tetra community. I love having my betta in the 10 gallon but I'm having trouble keeping him healthy. For now I will probably move the betta into the 5 gallon when I get it set up and perhaps later down the road make it a purely Cherry tank
For plants I want it to be densely planted. I have java moss, ruffled sword, penny wort, moneywort (I think), anubais nana, and lots of crypts.
I'm tempted to try and go for a carpeted tank with a natural rock hardscape (I'll go hiking for some supplies). What would be a good carpet plant for 2-4 wpg and I also want a taller bushy plant, something that would make a compliment to a large rock. Or do you think a moss covered rock with a carpet would be perfect?
There are just so many options I just don't know what to do.
Please help. Also, If anybody has any experience with 5 gallons advice would be GREATLY appreciated
