The best thing for nano planted aquariums

water changes, water changes, water changes.Dont get me wrong lighting, substrate and nutrients are still important but very frequent water changes are the key to success with a planted nano.Click image for larger version

I agree. Is that your tank? Any more pix?

Well the snail trap is not working. Maybe wrong bait. I did not have cucumber or cabbage at home so I put some banana instead but they all climb to the wall of the tank. Maybe they know it is a trap. Will try one more night and observe. This time with cucumber which is recommended. ~ CHUNTC

How much and how often do you do yours? I do about 15-25% once a week; tap water, prime, double dose of excel.

Yes I will post more pics of it.I do water changes almost daily I use ozarka bottled water.I do about 50 percent.if u dont do alot the algae will get out of control because the nutrients build up fast in the small volume of water.Click image for larger version

I say meh to water changes. Mine's really a pico, and low tech (no ferts). There are 2 CRS living in this tank. I can't remember the last time I did a water change. Must have been months ago. I only add water to replace what is lost to evaporation and cat imbibement.

true story, I need to amp up my water changes to 2 times a week on my 1 gal. last time I went with a no water change for months in a tank (my 10 gal; up to 6 months to be exact) the tank tended to crash(with algae) a bit after each long awaited WC that I did. Plus no water changin, and only topping off (unless its with RO water) allows stuff like GH and minerals /salt included to rise and should eventually make one's tank a higher pH.
