Nano Filter and Aquaclear 20

Hi folks,

I put an Aquaclear 20 in my nano cube last week. Works fine....after I plugged a hole in the intake with gum. Yes, I know, I'l exchange ot eventually. Before doing that though...it has two problems that I was wonndering are common or not?
  1. Minor is that its noisy. It rattles a bit and nothing stops it.
  2. Major is that it doesn't restore its siphon after power out. I have to manually refill it and play with it a bot before it restarts. That's a problem as I travel and it could run for a few days until it melts when I'm gone.
So what are you rexperiences. Is this typical of the AQ20? Any superior alternatives? This cube is on a bookshelf so space is limited, no aera undercounter for equipment, so options are limited.

Thanks,
AB

My AC20 is silent. It was noisy for the first two weeks, though. Have you tried plugging it in, letting it start up, then unplugging... rinse and repeat a few times? Is there excess gunk in the impeller compartment? I assume you have tried using the AC20 with and without the lid?

My AC20 refills itself when power goes out as long as the water level is not overly low.

I have had several Aquaclears HBO. By my standards they are quite and would restart fine by themselves after an electrical outage.

I have an Aquaclear 70 that was noisy out of the box and that became somewhat quieter over time. Many people have told me that theirs are silent and when they hear mine -- in its 'quiet' version -- they tell me to take it back. But I bought it online, so it's tough.

One thing, though -- your Aquaclear should restart after it's been switched off, as long as it's in water. When my Aquaclear 70 wasn't filling itself, I discovered that I had to press the intake tube in much more firmly. I pushed it firmly towards the filter and also downwards. Once it is in the right position, even if it doesn't look like it's differently situated, it should refill itself. Perhaps your filter will also be quieter once you've done that.

Thanks Morainy. I did notice it has more room to push down and that helped. Still not fixedthough, so will try another. Thanks for the input.

I would disconnect the motor chamber and take the impeller out and thoroughly clean it. I find that helps a bit when my AC is no longer "silent".
