Is this a SAE? I had 2 but one mat an unfortunate end when I poured the bag out over a net and he jumped down the drain, I recovered him, but he was dead. Should i get a second one or stick with one?
How many depends on tank size. They get quite large, and are not always too peaceful toward each other. Several often do get along well, but there does need to be a bit of room for one that is being bothered to get away.
Yep, looks like a -upside down- 'True' Siamese Algae Eater to me
Has clear fins, with the exception of the black lateral line extending onto the caudal fin. The black lateral line has jagged edges. And, a bit hard to see in the pic, but it appears the back/top has scales outlined in black. All common indicators of a 'true' SAE.
They generally like to be in groups, but yes it depends on your tank size.
It does look like true SAE to my eye. I have 4 in my 75 gallon tank. Now full grown they are lazy oafs that become quite aggressive at feeding time. If I could catch them I would rehome them.
