Hey everyone this is officially my first post

Anyway, I'm starting up a 10 gallon freshwater tank. I let it cycle for about three weeks, and i think its about time for fish. I was considering the Harlequin Rasbora, does anybody have any info or comments on this fish. I also wanted to know how many Rasboras i can have in this small tank
Thanks a lot

Welcome Eman

I have Harlequins in my 46g bowfront (check it out in the photo jounal section ). They are a favorite of mine because of their schooling behavior as well as their beauty. The larger they get, the more colorful they become - taking on a lovely orange color. Harlequins come from very soft acidic water, but can handle a wide variety of water hardness, so long as they are acclimated properly. With patience, they will eat flake food, but like most fish, prefer live/frozen foods. A small school of 6 or 8 would do well in a 10g.

I would personally choose a smaller schooling fish for a 10 gallon tank. or even smaller non-schooling fish. I don't think you will really observe much schooling behavior in such a small tank anyway.

I agree that you won't see much schooling behavior in small tanks, but the Harlequin Rasbora is one of my favorite freshwater fish (and it shows!) and I think a group of 6 or 7 would do splendidly in your 10g tank. Even fish that are famous for schooling such as RummyNose won't school well in a 10g so you might as well just choose your fish on preferences other than schooling behavior.

I used to keep a school of 12 Green Eyed rasbora's in a 10 gallon with a betta and they would school tightly... Not every fish wil do this but the rasbora's are ddefinately the better choice for small tank schoolers
