The weather is finally warming up here in Chicago, and I am starting to see worms, flies, and all manner of creepy crawly and flying things.

Wondered if any of you looked to your surroundings to supplement your fish foods? I seem to recall hearing folks talk about chopping up earthworms. Uh - how exactly do you go about it? Dead or alive? How much chopped worm goes how far? If I swat a skeeter on my arm, should I pluck it off and drop it in the tank?

If I catch any little moth/fly/mosquito around the house it goes into the tank. My gouramis love it. However, you may want to be concerned about any pesticides wild bugs may carry into the tank.

I do the same. I chop up extra worm from my not so successful fishing excursions and feed them. The Misses won't let me keep worms in the refrigerator. Strange I know. I cut them in thirds or quarters.

durning the summer I use worms a 6 in. worm can be cut up 4 or 5 times, Ill even pick up night crawlers, wax worms from the local bait shop and chop them up. I'd be carefull where you collect you bugs from dont want to interduce any pestisides to your tank

And make sure your wormy doesn't have any dirt that has fertilizers on it.

Wash your worm before you stick it in your tank

....whoa that sounded a little seedy :P

you get the picture

Yup. Depends on the size of the critter to the size of the fish. My Pike C. eats grasshoppers and worms, but doesn't like spiders. Otherwise my loaches and everything else seem to gobble up the worms. My friend has five large tin foild barbs and during the summer they each get hand fed 1 worm about every three days

Currently tankless for the first time in 24 years... Getting the itch again

When I used to house Gourami's I would feed them, on occasion, flies I killed. They loved them, used to always fight for them.
