I am turning my 90 gallon tank into a planted angel tank and I now filter it with 2 aquaclear 500s. Do you think they will cause too much water motion for the angles to be happy?? Thanks-

I've had exact same setup as described by Ginnie. Mine were fine, too.

Ginnie and Morie: Could I also ask you, how do you keep the aquaclears from blowing around the plants as they get taller. Is there a way to soften the output on those, other than the little tab on the top that moves sideways? Are your plants not bothered by their power? Thanks alot-

I didn't have much luck with plants with that setup (I had herbivorous fish in there), but the fish did well!

The best I could do for the plants (before they were eaten) was to position the filters at the ends of the tank and put the taller plants in the middle. I also had big rocks scattered around and that created some peaceful pockets. Not a great solution, but I didn't really mess with it too much because my plants didn't live that long. I believe some people shove chunks of sponge on the lip of the output to soften the waves. If you have big rocks, you can artfully place them beneath the output to break up the stream.

You might need a new topic for that subject to get more attention--I know people use them more successfully than I did! (I had to retire my AC500s in order to get the tank closer to the wall...plants still won't live with those fish!)

you could put sponges on the end of the intake tubes or modify the lip of the filter so that the flow isn't so strong. I keep mine on the lowest flow. My tank is heavily planted and I run my co2 into the intake of one of the filters. I've also heard that some people tape oa piece of plastic on to ease how the water comes out. I keep my tank full enough that the water is just over the lip too.
