Needle fish?

I hate making another thread but the fish bug has gotten me again. Does anyone know what those fish at petsmart are called that are usualy in the same tank with the clown loachs I think and they have like needle noses and their long? I think their called needle fish perhaps but I can't find information on them haha.. I'd like to have 2 or 3 of them but petsmart is 2 hours away and I want to read about them first before I buy them.. They usualy sell for $15 I think at petsmart..

needlefish or gars are predators the will grow large and eat your community fish.
if you like such long thin body types, look into pencilfish and/or danios instead.

Maybe Rocket Halfbeaks. I've seen them selling those before.

Trust me, i've seen them. I've seen regular ones, and the Rocket variety. But they look so nice and small, who wouldn't want to put three in a 10gl for their kids.

ps. im joking. worst idea ever, along with balas and rainbow sharks.

I overheard some idiot Petsmart Employee explaining to a customer, inquiring about the Needlenose Gars, that they eat flakes. I Laughed out loud (in his face) and then corrected the employee.

They do eat flakes. They just failed to mention that the flakes were contained inside its tankmates..lol

Its disturbing that they are even carrying them. Amazing fish though I love mine, but have to have the right tank and environment. They wont eat your loaches or any bottom dwellers though, unless of course you have a really short tank. They will sit at the top and only eat live food unless trained otherwise.

Another for the list of large predatorial fish that do not belong in most home aquaria. I always cringe when I see red tails and other large SA catfish at my LFS, but it's a common sight. Pictus are about where I would draw the line for most folks.
