Tankmates for honey gourami pair in 10g
I have a heavily planted 10g tank with a M/F pair of honey gouramis and 2 zebra nerite snails. The gouramis are pretty shy and very peaceful, so I figured with my low bioload I could add a couple tankmates. I have been curious about sparkling gouramis for a while, but very little reports on them coexisting with honeys. Just wondering if this would work out. They are apparently middle-low tank dwellers (while my honeys spend most of their time at the top) and extremely shy. I've heard that 2 males may fight, so possibly 2 females and a male would work?
The only concern I have is tank maintenance. Currently, I have medium lighting and dose NPK as required. 2/3 the water surface is covered by dwarf water lettuce, which allows me to only change the water once a month. I am really hoping the increased bioload won't put this out of whack too much, aside from possibly reducing my nitrate dosing.
Any thoughts/experience on this combination? Or any other suggestions? I'm really curious about a single chocolate gourami, which I've been intrigued with lately. Although practically everywhere I've read about them says 10g is way too small. How about wild type bettas?
