Important nitrite question!
I have two dwarf puffers. One is breathing kinda heavy. co2 is stable and ph is 6.5. I did a 50% (greater than 50% considering everything in the tank that displaces water) water change today and added a few snails and some ghost shrimp, along with a round of EI.
So I did nitrite test. Shows 1.6 when I put the vial against the color card. But this is where the questions comes in:
On the test kit instruction card it says: "To obtain the value for nitrite-nitrogen concentration in mg/l, the value obtained with this kit should be divided by 3.3.", but the card is already labeled in mg/l. Clear as mud.
If I do the division, I get .484 and should be ok. But the breathing thing points to high nitrite, since he's not hanging out at the top of the tank and acts normal otherwise. My test kit is a tetra master kit.
Amonnia is zero.
You can't polish a turd...
