Are these true Endlers?

I just recently purchased 3 male Red Endlers(as labeled in my lfs). If they are true endlers, what will be the consequences if it interbreed with a female guppy?

Yes they are: fries will be hybrid if crossed with Guppy..Hybrid~ some look nice some ugly...But hybrid males will be either the same size or smaller.

Cheers!!!

The cross breeds of guppies and endlers are fertile, so you'll be able to breed your own colors out if you want.

unlikely there isn't very many "pure" endlers left in the hobby especially if you got it from a petshop i would most likely say those are not "true" endlers. The only pure endlers left are those in hobbyist circles and even some of those may look pure but have likely been crossed to guppies at some point in the family line. Their is no real "consequence" as such to breeding endler to guppy ,it's just their is a increasing hype to keep endlers pure due to their near extinction in the wild. Some of the crosses can actually look quite nice indeed.

Thanks for the infos. I guess I'll have to breed it with guppies if I can't find any female endlers, which is very hard to find for me.

Also, how would the outcome be if I breed it with black female guppies? Will the fry be randomized but still having colors and/or patterns from the male and female? Sorry I don't know much about genetics and whatnot.

If you find a grey female with almost no color you will be able to get similar looking babies. I would pick one grey female, one blonde female and one black female. There are also females that are from twin tail lines that might make some beauties. Just experiment and see what you get. Document your results and learn from it.

I am just getting into Endlers: cute little guys There is so much to read on them on the web. They seem to be perfect for nano tanks - I wish I had tried them a long time ago. Go Endlers!
