do you think 30 congo tetra is too many for a 125?

with a 40g sump?

I feel that it may be if the fish get to around 3" full grown.

I want other fish as well, but want a striking, and decent sized, main school.

That's a fish that grows super fast, eats a lot, gets very rough when feeding (bumbs other fish), and it is gorgeous when mature. 30 in a 125 with a sump will not be too much, not at all. Except you may want to keep only them - there is no need to add any other fish to "enhance" the beauty of the tank. Trust me - you will love them when they get big, fat and colorful.

Keep in mind that the colors vary greatly depending on the bulbs you use and how they are placed. The best coloration is when the bulbs hit the scales from the front but that is not practical.

I'm already planning for dwarf cichlids, preferably all from the african region. I have a pair of kribs (male may be sacrimontis actually) already. Ideally i'll also have a leopard bushfish.

I'll have a large portion of heavy vegitation as well as a large portion of open swimming. I suspect the congo tetra will take over the open area, so wouldn't mind something small to hang out in the planted area.

we'll also be getting a pleco (as per the sole wife's requirement), but i'd like some sort of catfish or bottom dweller.

i'll have pictures of the tank as is tomorrow with some explanation for the layout as the plants havent grown in.
