29 gallon planted cichlid tank?

I am thinking about going with South American cichlids when I restart my tank. What species would be appropriate for this size tank?

Would small Angelfish be ok for my tank? I know that I would have to either re-home them or get a larger tank when they grow up. How long would it take for a small (2-4") Angel to get to big for my tank?

You could get a pair (1m/1f) of some blue or gold rams.

A single angel would be okay for the 29, but you could run into some aggression issues between two when they mature. I can't remember the timeframe for them to mature/grow, but mine have grown about 1" all around (length of actual body as well as fin length) in just over a month and a half. I got them at just under quarter-size and they are now over half-dollar size.

Definitely rams or maybe apistos. Angels in my 29gl years ago grew way too large quickly.

If I get Apistos, I should only get a male/female pair right?

If you want Apisto's to spawn I believe the ratio is 1m:2f. They do well on there own though, if you don't want a breeding pair. I have a little male cacatouides and he is happy as a clam by himself.
