Tips for successfully keeping Rummynose tetras

love these fish but read they can be hard to keep alive
Any tips or advice?

quarantine them first!!

this fish are always pronge to ick! I got two and didn't quarantine them....spread ick to all my tetras! kill 1-2 tetras.

keep your water soft and in groups of at least 6 but 10 is recommended.

From what I read once they get acclimated to your tank they are hardy. It's really only he first week or two that you may have issues. Make sure they have a bright red nose and are active and eating before you buy them

thanks everyone,!!! there noses were so bright red and i loved how tight they schooled/swam!!

They are pretty hardy fish, but they need a well established tank (6 months+) that has minimal parameter fluctuations. IME, that's the key.

easy fish to keep. just buy from a healthy source that sells healthy stock. never had a problem keeping these guys.

My 3 so far have done well in a newly cycled planted tank. 2 dozen more comming Sunday!
