Stocking list..?

Probably putting the horse before the carriage here as I havent even assembled my glass yet, but it cant be helped right?? Tank Dimensions are 36"x30"x18" about 85 gallons

I know I want a big school of either cardinal tetra... or CPD aka Galaxy Raspbora

And naturally a small fleet of some kind of cory

I also know I want a fair amount of dwarf cichlids... My chichlid wish list is below.

German Blue Ram (Long Fin)
Electric Blue Ram (Long Fin)
Blue Cheek Apisto Caucatoides
Triple Red Apisto Caucatoides
Apisto Aggassizzi
Kribenshens

I guess my first question is how many varitieys of dwarf cichlids do you think I could do / how many.

I want this tank to be full of smaller and colorful fish to give it a big impact when your looking through it, dont really want it overtaken by larger fish aka angels, discus, etc

Filtration will be running a 750 gph pump at almost 0 head height, please toss in some recomendations or ideas!

You meant kribensis, right? Because I wouldn't put kribs with with the other dwarfs. Kribs are from Africa and the rest of the dwarf cichlids are South American. Also, I've heard they can be very, very aggressive, especially when breeding. You might get away with it in that large of a tank, then again, you might not. I think they're really cool though and they were one of the fish I looked into for my tank. I ended up going with a Bolivian ram instead and I love him.

I would pick cardinals over CPDs. I think the CPDs like cooler water than the dwarf cichlids.

+1 for the cardinals. CPDs like to hide a lot so you'll probably see them much less often.

Re: Stocking list..?

Thats fine with me, love cardinals! I know I probably couldn't put all those dwarf cichlid in there but I wonder with appropriate hiding if I could do more than like 2 pair

I would go Kribs, I've never done them and always looked at them with amazement! I would say them and a large school of both cardinals and CPD's if you like both, How about some type of barb? Cherry?

True.

However, Kribs are from WEST Africa from the same type water perimeters that South American dwarfs come from. I feel the most success communities share the same requirements.

Re: Stocking list..?

Yes but how many pairs or groups of dwarf cichlids do you think I could comfortably get away with?

This is the important part

I know for sure I want some blue rams, one of thw caucatoides variants and I do like the kribensis so maybe a pair a piece total of 6 in the tank would be ok I imagine?

Hadnt really looked at the barbs

I think you might be ok, minus the corys. You'll have a lot going on for bottom dwellers. I'd say add the rams, apistos, and kribs first, let them get comfortable, and then see if you can work in corys. My rams dont mind the corys, but with several specie pairs all bottom dwellers there is potential for drama.

I'd just stay away from barbs, they are a pita fish lol Ankle biter fish, though microrasbora's would be cool, and add to the color of the rams, and apistos, and kribs.

I'm not into the image, but into the hobby...

Yea I didn't think about the cichlids all hanging on the bottom to! Very good point.

2 pairs of kribs at the most. Rams... four pairs (they have tiny territories). Apistos, a male and 3-4 females (the gals HATE each other). Why not check out some of the dwarf crenicichla? If you had fish larger than 2-3 inches, they'd be out of danger of being eaten, and dwarf pikes are unbelievably cool. I just graced my single bad boy with a few convict fry.... fantastically barbaric table manners, I must say... Or you could look at some of the overlooked dwarfs in the hobby like Anomalochromis thomasi, Nannacara anomala, Laetacara cuviceps, and the Dicrossus species.

Yeah, they're a few of the less common, unheard of ones. They're still by all means just as cool as the popular ones, though, especially the dwarf pikes (they're still pike cichlids, however, and they can be very nasty times).
