oxygen exchange

No longer have the HOB on the tank, only the canister. Like to keep it as quiet as possible since its in the living room. Worried that the ripples are not enough for the fish. Do I need actual bubbles breaking the surface ?
I do have an air pump, just not a fan of the bubble wall.

A good rolling ripple is enough. I have my spray bar along the side of the tank angled up to move the surface.

Depends on how many fish and how many plants and how many other critters are respiring.

Check just before bed (well after lights out) and see none are skimming.
