Okay, I have 8 young yoyo's that are coming out of quarantine and while they do have a large cycled tank waiting for the group of them, I have a handful of 10 gallons that need some snail control and I'd like to give these guys a tour on the way to their permanent home! They are each about 1.5 inches long right now. Questions:
How do you catch these bugers!? Seriously?
Can I split them in to the 10s for a couple of weeks alone or in pairs or would this make them unhappy? Otherwise I could probably do two groups of four since the 10s are understocked maybe?
Drain the tank and box them in a corner with 2 nets. Works with any fish - this is how I caught a SAE in a 210 G tank with tons of plants. If you can't drain boxing with 2 nets still works. Make a cubicle in a corner with 1 net + the 2 tank walls, and use the last net to chase them in and complete the box.
I highly reccomend using a bottle trap! If you are patient should should be able to catch them all, without wrecking your tank. Just take a 1-2 liter bottle, cut it in half, turn the top over so it is like tunnel leading into the bottom part, and wa-la! just put something tasty in the bottom part and then they'll swin in, but wont be able to figure out how to swim out.
