Will be setting up a new 30gal basic planted aquarium. No CO2..Substrate will be Miracle Gro Organic Potting Mix with a black sand car or I amy just use ECO-Complete.
What’s the best fish to use that won’t eat my plants, dig in the sand and will school nice.
Would note that more than a few species have differing water requirement's with respect to hardness, temp.
Would select fish that will thrive in water you have, and that is most easily re-produced (ie)tapwater.
Much easier than altering water to suit the fish.
you can always acclimate them to your water, but some fish just have a tough time surviving in hard water. Neon tetras are a good example of that. They generally just don't do well in a hard water tank. I would say you could try Moons, Mollies and Swordtails? If you go that route, just go for plants with larger leaves. Sometimes, swords have been known to eat stuff like anacharis. Or maybe try some rainbows?
