Quarantine all fish, every time.
BN are great algae eaters. When algae is scarce, feed with just about any kitchen vegetable. Most vegies can be fed raw, but my BN eat cooked vegies faster.
Hardest vegies like pumpkin, butternut squash, yam: Bake to almost as tender as we like it, but do not add any spices, or microwave or boil. Dry cooking leaves it firmer, it does not fall apart so fast in the tank. Slightly underdone is best. Overdone, it falls apart fast.
Softer vegies like broccoli stems, carrots (not a favorite in my tanks), zucchini: slice thin and microwave with just a little water until the color brightens, or the zucchini is not so white (not until it is fully clear, though). Or blanch in a pot of boiling water, but only for a few seconds.
Softest foods like cucumber, melon and other fruits: Serve raw. Do not feed too many or too much fruit.
Seed of over-mature zucchini or cucumber might not be eaten. Remove before feeding.
