Yeah I just saw those at Petco this week. Hard to tell what sex they are at that size. For $1.99 it's hard to pass up...but I just wish I knew the sex so I can determine whether it's safe to toss into my sorority.
I love Bettas, but hate those mini aquariums. I used to have 2 tanks for a long time. One housed 3 female Bettas, Cory cats, Kuhlis, and an Angelfish. The other one had one male Betta, two angels amongst other community fish. There were never any problems if you keep several female Bettas with other fish, but for males only one male which is also ok with other fish. That way, the fish has more space and is happier and you can enjoy it in its full beauty. I've never had a male and a female together in a tank though, but they should get along.
Guys if your stores aren't taking good care of the fish then please don't buy from there! You are simply encouraging their neglect by rewarding them with cash. Take your business somewhere else and be sure to let them know exactly why you are doing so.
Yes, this. It's not rescuing, it's just encouraging the store to buy more to neglect.
He's is gone as in not in The tank gone no body nothing. I have to smallish cichlid and a loache would they have ate him he was the size of the otos and a good swimmer?
Depending on the type of cichlid, they will eat anything smaller than them, even ottos if they see them. I had some ottos and cories with my cichlids. Big mistake. I thought they had fin rot, but it turned out the cichlids were eating them alive.
*Heck, they will try to eat things bigger than them too!

I got one a month ago and she's doing great. When I got her she was a small little transparent stripey thing, and 3 weeks later she blossomed into a young woman (lol) and dumped eggs all over the tank. They really grow up fast with appropriate foods, extra warm water and lots of water changes. She'll be going into her own 5g next week.
