eh it wasn't at all. ugh im pissed really. every time i wanna add to my tank their dumbass fish always have a disease to ruin my tank. oh well in the end it's my fault. I don't know if it was the heat or the salt but I lost two of my fish already that I've had in here for a long time. UGH.
right now i have 2 serpae tetras, 1 pleco and 1 japanese algae eating shrimp. lost my original serpae tetra and my two platys that i had since they were tiny babies. and 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons like it says.
I don't have a quarantine tank so I was thinking about cranking the heat up to 86F with salt in the tank.
If you catch the parasites in time, all you need to do is to raise the temp in the tank a few degrees. 80 should be sufficient and follow an aggressive water change routine for two to three weeks. Just change out half the tank water every three to four days and vacuum the gravel where possible. By flushing a lot of pure, treated water through the tank and warming up the water a bit, it should help.
If you want to add some standard aquarium salt, that's fine. For the sake of your plants, I'd keep the dose to a little more than a teaspoon for every five gallons of new water.
