How many should i try for at a shot

My first real planted tank is goign to be up soon... I had it set up at a goldfish planted bu they don't allow much, so they moved to my other tanks and i picked up another tank too.
At first i'm adding 8 albineo bristle nose plecos(smallish ones to grow out some more) which i'll later want a breeding pair in this tank., then i'll move my 7 panda corys which i know i have at least one set of breeders because they went from 3 to 7 in a month or so.
I have all the bio media from my goldfish set up in the fridge downstairs by the tanks...(figured to treat it like bio-spria) so it shoudl be pretty mch set for bio already...

Anyway, question time.
My lfs is setting up a special order whenever i want to get true rummynose tetras and 6 or so ottos anyway how many of the tetras do you think i should get in one shot? they're probabally smallish ones for the price he's giving me($60 for 30)and hwo soon after i get the tank runnign again? I have lots of fast growers and eco-complete too which is suppose to have bacteria in it.

I hope I didn't miss it but, how big is the aquarium, fishboy? I don't think you mentioned that.

I believe he has a 75 gallon tank.

From reading this board, it doesn't seem too important to cycle the tank also (for planted tanks).

As for the fish, I think a nice school would need atleast 10. But that's my opinion.

Cool, good luck - Don't forget to post pics

Thats a tough one, rummy nose tend to have a high mortality rate.

Yup, depends on how they come in. 60 for $30 is a good price for them, and that isn't such a big outlay. I'd probably shoot for 1.5x the amount that you'll eventually want in there (e.g. want 20 of them in there, buy 30) if he's willing to extend the pricing to a smaller quantity.

it's a 75.. has 2 xp3's , ph control co2, 2 9325K 2 6,700K (260 watt total) 160 lbs of eco... it's 60 for 30 for 30 for 60....
In the end i want 30-40 of them. SO i was wondering whether i could just get them all in at one shot after it runs for a month or so

Don't assume that the fast growers you've planted will automatically protect you from a ammonia/nitrite spike...especially when you're adding a large bio load all at once.

That being said, I'd say go for the full 30. You'll just need to keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels over the first couple of days. If you can get them in early enough in the day you may want to do a partial water change after a few hours (~20%) just to make sure that things don't get out of hand overnight. Nothing worse than waking up to find a tank full of dead fish.

I'm not sure where you are located, but my LFS regularly carries rummynose 6 for $10 and has a 25% off sale every month when you pay cash (which would be 6 for $7.50). I plan on putting a school of these in when I get my Discus in and my angels out. My tank is also 75 gallon. If you're anywhere near Baltimore, MD the shop is called Exotic Aquatics.
