So, I noticed over the past week that my male fire red has seemed really bloated. His belly is not nice and round but more oblong and the scales at the rear of his belly are flair I got out. I just threw in some API general cure but not sure where to go from here.
Dropsy looks more symmetrical than that. I'm thinking he has a tumor or blockage maybe. A trick for blockage is to offer him some green peas. Find unsalted, unflavored green peas, peel the skin off one and see if he eats the mush. Can use frozen, just let it sit out a minute. I've seen this cure some bloated bellies firsthand. There, the problem was an intestinal blockage, I'm not guaranteeing that's what you have, but it's a pretty easy thing to try
Well it looks like he's officially lost his appetite and his scales around the rear of his belly are poking out. The General Cure had no effect and I'm on the third dose of Maracyn 2. It's looking likes it's going to be a lost cause.
Can anyone give me some assistance with info regarding an epsom salt bath?
Well I'm not just going to give up on him yet, he still has some spunk and is still breeding with the female. Either way he got a bath today and we'll see what happens.
Maybe you will learn from it. That fish suffered for over a week to the point of death.
Sometimes no matter how attached we are, the humane thing is to end an animal's suffering.
