Thank you all for your help. Simply pushing up to break the seal did not help given that the tubing is at least 1-2 inches in. I made it work by using a combination of hair dryer and hot water but I did not only pushed up in the direction of the pipe, but also tried to 'peel' the tubing from the top (see picture) using my nails a bit to get a grip. Once the seal was broken off by letting air in from that direction, the tubing slipped out by pulling hard away from the pipe. It was tough but I hope it gets easier going forward.
