big bubbles?

i tried out my co2 reactor today. is it normal for there to be a build up of air? cuz there was this major bubble around the top part, no lower than the airtube (about 2"). (DIAGRAM IS GRAV VAC ONLY!)
|____| o,O,0= air bubbles
| | | |
| | | |<-- AIR w/ water from powerhead right through to bubbles
| 0 O |<--tube in
| o o |
| o 0 |
| o O |
| O o |

maybe its not too clear, but half of my grav vac is air, the other half is water with bubbles. the water from the powerhead just jumps right thru the air and i guess diffuses the CO2...

Ok, the CO2 tube should enter at the top, vertically. No there really should not be a large pocket of air...make sure your powerhead isn't airlocked...mine gets airlocked often when I do a water change because it pulls water in from the bottom of the powerhead, so when I refill the tank a little air always gets trapped, and then the powerhead either doesn't run at all, or runs very weakly.

All that means is that the CO2 isn't diffusing quite as fast as it's being added to the diffuser. It's pretty common, I'd say. As for the tube, I really doubt it matters where it is attached -- as long as it's not so low that it blows out of the thing right away INFACT, lower down means that the CO2 has to fight its way against the current as it rises to the top.... would this not be desirable?

Anyways, until you can increase the dissipation/diffusion rate, is it DIY or pressurized? I ask because you might as well slow down the CO2 rate if you have pressurized.

i got a new gravel vac. 10 inches. so i guess i'll put the tube vertical. it'll look cleaner that way anyway.
