silicon is water safe?

I am building my scape and heard that silicon is fish/plant safe. Is this correct?

You have to get the kind WITHOUT anti-mold/mildew agents. And let it cure for at least 24 hours.

Be sure to look for silicone, not silicon.

I believe the common newer GE stuff in stores like lowshas this. Read IT. if it has any protection like that be careful. you can find safe stuff at petsmart petco mabbie wallmart.

i just resealed my tank 2 weeks ago and GE silicone I for windows/doors is completely aquarium safe and surprisingly cheap. found it at lowes.

comes in quite a few colors, too. if you aren't looking for clear.

my 30g journal.

--2 cats, 1 ferret, 1 gerbil, and a 2.5g betta tank.--

I called GE about their silicone and they said that all of their GE Silicone's have an anti mold agent and should not be used for aquariums instead they recommended other brands that have a Marine Silicone they also said that their silicone would most likely raise or lower the PH of the water depending on the silicone and the buffering capabalites of the water.....

yup! make sure you get the GE I and avoid the GE II. the II is the one the anti-mold agents...

i sealed my 210 with GE I and many other people have too. they are only telling you this to avoid any legal issues. nobody has ever reported any problems with GE I
