I built my own sponge filter for a future shrimp tank, my only problem is the air pump is extremely loud and it will drive me nuts. Is there any way to fix this issue?
My other question with it, if there is no way to make it quieter, will it affect the shrimp too much if I just turned it off when I'm sleeping?

I hate air pumps because they always make some level of noise. I've found the surface you rest them on helps sometimes. Rubber and magazines have worked the best for me. Theres also some sponge filters that run off powerheads. I'm not sure how you made yours but maybe you can tweak it to run off a powerhead, they are much quieter.
I followed this video, wish I was a bit more creative.
