Will this stand be "topheavy"?
This is a design I'm noodling for a Fluval Flora. It was suggested that with such a small footprint and all the weight at the top it would be easy to knock over, yet I believe others had done similar builds.
Planted Tank Obsessed
With a hardwood floor you're probably ok under normal circumstances. I'd be a little concerned about what happens if anyone bumps into it though. Unfortunately, due to the small footprint, counter weighting it at the bottom will do very little. Is it possible to screw the middle back panel into a stud in the wall? Alternatively you can just fix a bigger square board to the bottom as I believe some commercially available stands do for tanks of this size.

If you don't mind putting some small holes in the hardwood floor (which could be filled if the tank is ever removed) you could secure the stand to the floor with metal angle brackets and wood screws to prevent tipping. The brackets would be located inside the bottom members so you would not see them from the outside.
