Cree led for 7.5 gal cube, 12"cubed

I'm looking to make an led fixture for a larger tank, but figure I will learn while making one for my much smaller 12" cube tank first. I would like to build one that is dim-able by arduino, I'm just wondering how many and which type of LEDs to use, and which controller/ power supply I should get for it.

Just to get your feet wet with leds, I'd recommend using only 4-6 Cree XP-G's, a Meanwell LDD driver ( accepts 5V PWM signal directly from Arduino) a modest heat sink and a 24V/2A "Walwart" or Laptop style power supply. The leds can purchased in either cool or warm white, so you can mix the ratio to your liking.
You can find the LDD-1000H right here-LDD-1000H | Mean-Well LDD-1000H | USA Warehouse
FleaBay for the power supply & LEDGroupBuy for the leds and heat sink.

Yes- you'd only need one driver and a small power supply to power it. Here's a few links for XPG's,XML's ect..

Ledgroupbuy has the xt-e's, which replaced and are supposed to be more efficient than the xp-g. For a tank that small, you should look at the dim4 controller. It can handle all your dimming functions and also control up to 12 led's(3 per channel). Or, you could do what I did and get a controller from O2surplus, along with the drivers he mentions.
