I recently found an unused pool pump in the basement of my frat, and I think I may be able to turn it into a D.E. filter. It used to belong to a 10' dia. plastic pool, and has the same sort of pleated tube filtre that I've seen on pics of Magnums and the like. Do you guys think that if I charged it with D.E., it would work for periodic water polishing?

It definitely is possible, as long as it doesn't have any steel parts that contact the water. A lot of large tank setups use pool pumps/equipment. It might be a bit large, but it seem as if it would make a heck of a periodic water polishing tool.

Be sure to get the DE from a local pool store....MUCH cheaper and you get tons more DE than you know what to do with! I am running DE with a HOT Magnum and it does well.....
