In the process of doing DIY co2, a questions

How do I know how much co2 will be going into the tank? I don't want to kill all my shrimp.

Get a bubble counter. How many bottles are you running and is this for your 40B?

If you do it correctly, a 1G DIY Co2 won't be enough to gas your fish. You can also use a drop checker as a reference sourceto see how much Co2 you have in your tank

yeah, you won't be gassing your fish with DIY.
i use 1/4 tsp active yeast, 2 cups sugar, 1/4 tsp baking soda (to buffer pH), and a few drops of vegetable oil to prevent frothing, and i don't even get 1 BPS. but it's enough to make my plants happy. this is in a 5 gallon BTW.

i don't even know if 1G would be enough for a 40B tank... you might want two bottles. up to you, really.

I usually use 2 liter bottles, but more of them for a larger tank. Then I can swap them out in rotation for a more even supply of CO2.

do you have a bubble counter jar (always a good idea) attached to the main bottle? if so, after a while (it has taken me up to three days in the past) you'll see bubbles coming out of the airline into the water. if not, put the output of your CO2 into nonmoving water (tank, a cup, etc) after two or three days. if there are any bubbles coming from the output, it works.

So I started diffusing it thru the maxijet venturi and it seems to be working pretty good. I see tiny bubbles floating all around my tank now. I hope this method is ok because it does suck out co2 instead of letting pressure build to pump itself out.

If this works out how soon will i see results? a week?

The plants ought to respond within a week, unless they are really slow growing plants.
