My girlfriend won these at my clubs auction a month or so back. They came as a pair. I finally upgraded there tank from a now light 10 gallon to a brightish 20l. I had done some reading on them last night and read that breeder will give them a dark period with low water level then increase the water level and add light to promote breeding. Well I think by accident that I happened to replicate this as this is what I've got going on now.
The male is locked in tight. So maybe they will lay eggs. I read they can lay up to 1000. Pretty cool.
We got the pair at Auction for $15, and I've seen some online sites charging $75 a piece for them and $130 for breeding pairs. Needless to say I'm hoping they have babies!! Haha
These guys should be very easy to breed. Just by chance, you actually seem to have one of the things that helps a lot: a 'dance floor'. This species really likes to have a small area clear of plants to do their courtship dance, which I see they are busy doing
Yep I have seen over $130 plus for breeding pairs . It will not be hard to sell the babies . The adults you have now are very pretty.
Do they ever leave the water and float on your floating plants?
They only go to the surface and gulp air, at night they have there heads popped out of the water. They are definitely courting and the male tries to latch on which he does but i think hes still learning. We will have babies eventually.
