Macro question - Angle Distortion

I tried shooting a few macro shots of my tank for the first time tonight with my D300s and Tamron 90 on a focusing rail and tripod only to discover it seemed impossible to get a sharp image unless the lens was pointed straight at the glass because of distortion. In zoomed Live View it was painfully obvious the subject just blurred and distorted in another direction when I would cross over what should have been he point of focus. Anyone else notice this or have any general tips to overcome the problem?

Water refracts, so the further from perpendicular you get to the glass, the worse the chromatic aberration gets.

I don't think there's anything you can do about it other then try to stay as perpendicular as you can relative to the glass.

Read up on focus stacking. A start at

dGH 55, dKH 12, TDS about 1000 ppm

Thanks, I noticed moving back out of true macro range makes it easier to stay more perpendicular to the glass and gives slightly more flexibility when shooting.
