Which light for heavily planted 18x18x18?

which LED would be recommended for a 18x18x18 cube, with pressurized co2. Looking for High/med light at the substrate...

Thanks!

You'll probably want to get a Ray 2. Anything over 50 PAR is considered high light, so the 24" Finnex Ray 2 should give you what you want. At 18" between fixture and substrate, it produces 55 PAR at the substrate. The included mount raises the fixture by about 2 inches, and since I'm going to assume your substrate will be at least 2-3 inches deep, there's no doubt you'll have high light at the substrate level. The 18" Ray 2 might also work out for you if you can keep the distance between fixture and substrate somewhere in the 15-16", but you'd have to 4-5" of substrate. I'm not sure if that's too deep.

I guess if Finnex can't answer, I'll just go with the marineland LED....

Check out Build My LED...they have a planted tank light that offers decent PAR levels. Good customer service too!

I literally love my aquarium(s).

Maybe you should do your own research? There are dozens if not hundreds of threads on these lights and their PAR output.

If you check the finnex.net site, most of the leds I looked at had graphics with the par data as part of the description.

The sticky at the top of this forum shows PAR at depth for most Finnex units. A ray 2 is your best bet for high light, supplemented with a MonsterRay to help with full spectrum. The Marineland LED will likely be nice for lower light plants.

i would use an LED bulb for a cube setup. a bulb will give you a better spread compared to a strip fixture.

Where did you get that pendant? I bought some PAR38 LEDs from HD this weekend and I am itching to set up a cube with one.
