No co2. Would one Ray 2 be ok or will I ultimatly need two to get enough PAR in front and the back?

A ray 2 with no co2 sounds like an algae farm, Lowe is the expert but I'm guessing you would be better with 2 Fugerays - solid medium PAR

What are the dimensions of your breeder?

40B are typically 36"x18"x16" give or take half an inch.

Personally I am using a Ray2 36" DS on my 40B and I love it.. I would say it's medium-high light (I have tall plants and a large hunk of driftwood that reduces quite a bit of light to the substrate) but I'm no expert lol.

Yes, those are the dimentions and I am looking for around 40par . my concern is the 18" depth and loss of par in front and back.

At 16" you'll get over 40 PAR front to back if you place your Ray2 over the middle of the tank if you go off the PAR charts.

It lights up my 40B pretty well so no complaints here.
