After I made this, I new I had to tell someone about it. Two nights ago I made some couscous, which I had never made before. I did half water half chicken broth- couscous is a rice shaped pasta in basic terms, and I was interesting. Well, the people on food network were right- it takes on the flavor of whatever you put in it, and since I really didn't put much in it- it didn't taste like ANYTHING! It was bland and had a wierd taste.
Well, I finally added some cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg and wow it tasted good- what wouldn't after adding all those good ingredients. I decided that wasn't enough. I added the rest of the skim milk, some flour, lots more cinnamon, 2 eggs, some baking soda and powder, some oil, cloves, and some brown sugar. I didn't measure anything. I then made an oatmeal streusal topping and poured it on the batter after pouring the batter into the cake pan. I baked it at 350 and it tastes just like a really good spice cake- but it's couscous.
I know this was a crazy idea- but I honestly couldn't think of anything better to do with it. The thing that amazed me was that with baking your measurements usually have to be to the dime- but these were all thrown together ingredients- and it still worked out!
Anyone else done crazy cooking things like this?
