Riddles

Here are three riddles - the first one I posted before, so some of you may have seen it. Let's see who gets all three right first.

1. What word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it?

2. John’s mother had three children. The first child was named April. The second child was named May. What was the third child’s name?

3. I am the beginning of eternity and the end of space,
First in everything but last in grace,
Two times in Heaven, more times in Greece
I can be found in the French Riviera at Nice
You’ll see me once in a year, twice in a week,
In the middle of an ocean, a sea or a creek,
I’m in sunshine and darkness, but never in rain.
And you won’t find me in Africa, China or Spain.

What am I?

I figured I would start off easy. Besides, not everyone was around at the time of T-Rex and what's old is sometimes new again.

Try these:
1. Continue the series of letters: o t t f f s s _ _ _.

2. Use addition to make eight 8's equal 1,000.

Cool! You got it. By the way, I'm also ancient.

Here's some more:

• What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?

• The man who invented it doesn't want it. The man who bought it doesn't need it. The man who needs it doesn't know it. What is it?

• What is the largest amount of money you can have in change and still not have proper change for a dollar?

• You have three boxes of fruit. One contains apples, one contains oranges, and one contains a mixture of both. Each box is labeled -- one says "apples," one says "oranges," and one says "apples and oranges." However, you know that none of the boxes are labeled correctly. How can you label the boxes correctly if you are only allowed to take out and look at just one piece of fruit from just one of the three boxes?

Open the box that is labeled "Apples and Oranges".

You know that since none of the labels are correct, the box must either contain only apples, or only oranges.

Suppose that you remove an apple from that box. Therefore, that box is the "Apples Only" box.

One of the two remaining boxes must be the "Oranges Only" box. However, one of them is labeled "Apples Only", and the other is labeled "Oranges Only". Therefore, the one labeled "Apples Only" is the box that contains only oranges, and the box labeled "Oranges Only" is the box that has both kinds of fruit.

A coffin.

A towel.

Darn, GraphicGr8s beat me to all of them!

Though I'll admit, I was a bit stumped on the apples and oranges one.
