Chondrus crispus - green spots

Hello. One week ago I collected some Chondrus crispus algae at the see. I then put them in a see-water tank (I obviously controlled temperature, salinity and pH, to create similar conditions). Some days ago, some of them started to develop green spots at the ends of their thallus. Those spots are getting bigger and bigger and the tissue feels slimy and is very fragile (if you touch it, it almost instantly falls apart). Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? I would very much appreciate your inputs!!

Welcome to the Planted Tank!

Over here the focus is on freshwater plants. You may get more/better responses at a dedicated reef forum. Although you never know, there may be some reefers, planted or not, in the membership. Good luck!

You collected a species that require you to not only match temperature, specific gravity and pH but also mineral content.

Moving it to your tank caused it to melt and it sounds like it is dying. You should remove it.

It's best to obtain species like that from reputable aquatics retailers or other hobbyists instead of collecting them from the wild.
