There are 3 mom and pops that are close to me....may be more but these are the ones I go to..One of them is just for looking though, way too $$ for me. Then there are 3 petsmarts near me and another one or two that are in driving distance 40-60 min I'd say. I do have one favorite store though that I go to more than the others. they know me well, what I have in my tanks and what I like. Sometimes they even cut me a deal. Their plant selection isn't too hot though, have to go to the $$ store or order online for most of those. Hopefully they will be getting in some agasizzis on Tuesday. I'll be there to check them out!

1 of each PetSmart, PetCo & a bunch of Walmarts. The PetSmart isn't that bad (For a PetSmart).

2 Local shops, and one a bit further out. Prices are a bit high, but thats common.

I usually go to PetSmart or one of the LFSs, depending on what I need.

I live in a pretty large city so there's a good selection:

Mom and Pop LFS's: 8

Petco's: 4

Petsmart's: 3

I usually go to Petco/Petsmart for equipment and the other ones for plants/fish.

This is just within the city limits of Austin itself. If you venture out into the suburbs, there are even more of them

There are about four local stores within an hour of my home (that I know of). Three are pretty standard and carry the same stuff for the same price. The other has a terrific plant/fish selection (lots of reef stuff, too), though they're terrible with amphibians and small animals. They carry eco-complete, flourite, flourish line of ferts, etc.

There is one petco and one petsmart (only a few blocks from one another) that I go to for some supplies, but never fish.

I buy most of the more expensive supplies online...so much cheaper that way.

I used to have over a dozen excellent LFS's when I lived in North Jersey, but now I've got two, plus Petsmart, and the Petsmart has healther stock and more selection than both of the LFS's put together.

I would love to live in San Diego Other than that, the Concord/Livermore area, or maybe Santa Rosa. Redding would also be nice.

There are two pet shops in town which are both within walking/bus/bike distance. If I take the connector bus over to the next city over, I get three more shops to choose from, and if I bum a ride off someone else (extremely rare occurance) that adds another six to the list at least. I get most of my supplies/plants/fish online and through a club though, since the selection in-town is not very good and it's rather expensive.

In an 30 minute drive there are 2 big chain stores, 2 run-down looking lfs, 2 lfs that I haven't visited, and That Fish Place (5 minutes away, but just out of walking distance ). I can't wait till I'm get my drivers liscence ( just over a year away) then I can hit every lfs within an hours drive .
