Thanks! The lady said that she is donating an albino catfish to the some-what-local Cabella's that has an indoor aquarium. I'm assuming that she was keeping it in the tank she's giving me. Also, she said that she thinks it's 4 or 5 gallons. I think it'll make a nice little planted tank for the living room on the end table, or maybe I can put it in place of my Hex 5 that I had in the kitchen...hmmmm....
I remember my first tank when I was twelve or something was one of those. I think the corners were sealed with tar, or asphaltum or some such. It was black anyway I remember. I suppose 100% silicone hadn't been thought of yet :hihi: .
Okay. The lady just emailed me and has now informed me that her son "reminded" her that the tank has a broken side. She says that it's fixable. Think I should still pick it up? Would it be worth repairing?
Oh yes, still go pick it up. Glass panels aren't too hard to replace. If you're getting it for free, go for it! People around here pay big money for those!
Looks simple enough. I was mainly wondering how to remove the old glass, especially after you informed me that the original seals are made of tar. Looks like all I need is a hair dryer (got it), silicone (got that, too), stuff to clean up (should have it), and appropriate glass (gotta get it). What kind of glass is recommended? I've never repaired a tank before, nor have I built one.
Also, I found a few Metaframes on ebay. Good god I got a GREAT deal! Some of the tanks on ebay come with the light.
Which leads me to...
Any suggestions on how to cover and light the tank?
