Now the secret, peal down the bottom leaves until you expose about one 1" of the stem. Surprise there are root buds forming there!

Now suspend in in water like you did the Avo pit.

Or, you could just toss it in the Compost bin....
I've heard about the roots growing on the crown but never realized that there would be roots there!

There was a good youtube video on this. I used to do the cut the top off 1" still attached to the crown and I always failed as the top would rot. I've started several with the "peel" method. I just do not have the light a Pineapple needs to thrive under to keep mine going ver winter.

I'll post up pics of the Mango tree (5yrs+) and the Grapefruit tree (10yrs+) that we started from saplings we found in our compost pile. Funny our best & favorite house plants came from the compost bin.

If they fruit every year, that would be amazing! Youre in Chicago I guess?

Ive been wanting to try the cado. I stuffed a pit in one of my indoor tropical plant soils, it actually grew but then died. I think it dried out. This time Im thinking of doing it the water cup way. Iv heard it will fruit in about 5 or so years?

The side that is more "flat" and has the off color patch on it with a dimple is the bottom and the rounded smooth end is the top

It takes up to 2 months to first grow roots, the pit should crack soon for you, when you see that happening that means that it's starting to grow
