Just a friendly poll! I personally have been into planted tanks for around 4 years now. And have had tanks for a long time!

Right at 30 years. Started with a 10G that had bright yellow gravel and a bubbling treasure chest. I've gone through many cycles, have over forty tanks at one time in the late 70's, had a saltwater phase that lasted about 10 years, then a cichlid phase, finally the lastest phase and in my estimation the most difficult, planted tanks...about 7-8 years with the last 3-4 being much more serious.

I hear you on that, Steve! It seems I've tried just about every type of aquarium but the planted tank has been the most challenging and consquently, the most rewarding. I would like to start another reef tank, but aside from cost, the biggest downside to reef tanks is the small margin for error. I'd like to try a deep living sand bed reef with a refugium and no skimmer, though. I know a few people who are having fantastic success with that method and require very little maintenence.

Guess, I kinda missed a few steps huh? lol Plastic plants really bother me, since april, all my new tanks, go straight top plants. Maybe not totally, but, always some foilage in there.. Planning a reef right now... Uugh, lol

I fell in love with fishkeeping when I was 2-3 years old. I remember feeding our Oscars feeder goldfish.

20 years later and here I am!

Going on 40 years in tropical fish and close to ten, trying to achieve a lush Amazon biotope tank.

I've been in the hobby about 2 and a half years now. I started with a 30g that my parents had stored away. Threw some gravel, driftwood and fish in right away. Now I'm cycling my first dirted 40g planted aquarium. Almost 3 weeks in and I'm loving it. I only want to go bigger!

About 40 years in the aquarium hobby. Planted tanks on and off through out the years. This forum and modern styles of planted tanks is new to me.

Talk about digging up a relic.

Well since it's here, I was in the hobby as a child. Now that I'm married and somewhat financially stable I have gotten back into it with two tanks.

About 44 years.
8 years old I was raising mollies and guppies.
At 10 raising convict cichlids in multitudes.
Every LFS would buy them, 10 year old income you know.

28 year gap at present, just got a new tank.
Guy wanted everything removed from his house, I took it.
Been wanting to restart for about a decade.

Swimming is not that difficult.
