K9 work...

Spent the week at the WVPCA (West Virginia Police Canine Association) seminar held every year...lots of dogs, handlers, and biting, my Dutchie Oz is now certified as a narcotic detection dog and got his patrol cert as well which means he is proficient in obedience, criminal apprehension, and handler protection. Here's a few shots I grabbed during some of the work we did...

Me in the suit...

And my boy Oz, whom I'm very proud of...

Nice pics! I love watching dogs do their job. Oz looks like he's in excellent condition. I'm really happy for you getting this opportunity.

I wanted to do something similar to that when I get my Doberman puppy, so he would be a good guard dog. I don't want him to be a narcotics dog though because I have some socially-questionable lifestyle choices myself hahaha.

Congratulations, this is very cool! As I am posting this, I am looking - somewhat disapprovingly - at my own dog, who is snoozing away in the corner. I need to show him these pictures.

haha...make him earn his keep...lol...honestly though, it's a lot of fun working with these dogs and IMO, even doing some basic obedience is great for the dog and helps build a stronger bond. It's fun watching them progress.

Oh, definitely! My dog has actually come a long way since we got him as a really awkward puppy. Nowhere near the league of a professionally trained shepherd, of course, but very obedient, a good guard dog, and very gentle with our one-year old. Plus a champ at any ball-related activity. I wanted to do the canine good citizenship program with him, but like many pitbull-type dogs, he's not great with other dogs. But he is focused enough these days to be around other dogs without problems as long as he is having a job to do and the dog-dog interaction is limited to a quick 'hello,' so I am think of trying out agility training with him.

Here's a picture of him guarding the sunniest spot in the house.

Congrats, that's awesome

I'm not new to fish or plants, but am new to planted tanks. It is fun to learn new things and plantedtank.net is a great place to do it.

It can be done. My wife and myself run Solace Pitbull Rescue and one of the last pups that came through "Annie" was certified as both an AKC GC and TDI therapy dog. She was a separation anxiety lush that puddled at everyones' feet.

And to Nubster, you had mentioned gaining the Handler position in another thread. Congrats on the Dual Purpose Certification, you have just increased the productivity of your department immensely.
