I am a Dog Trainer, I train using positive re-enforcement method based on Dr. Ian Dunbar's "Sirius" methods. We reserve "NO" for serious infractions and use a neutral sound "Eck" sound for minor corrections. In a positive training program one should be using either very often anyway.

When the contented response is No, No, NO...it turns into Blah,
Blah, Blah. The last syllable reference is only part of it. inflection, volume, tone are also factors. Pretty much my business is about how to teach dog owners how to communicate with their dogs effectively.

Our dog Ruby is 9 so she might be around for a few more years, hopefully. They definitely wont be hunting together, Ruby has blown both her back knees and has Auto Immune Deficiency.

A guy we're great friends with is going to help train the dog since he's getting one from the same litter, He's Ex K9 and has been training dogs for years

I used to train shutzhund sport with my Rotty. Most "Ex-K9" guys and a lot of Shutzhund and Protection trainers employ Koelher Method. Years ago I used that style too, before I became enlightened.

BEFORE you let anyone touch that puppy be sure you understand the whys & how's of what's going to happen. Google Koehler Method of Dog Training and see what Bill Koehler is about, then compare to Dr. Ian Dunbar's Sirius method.
It's 100% easier to no create a phobia or training issue that it is to fix it latter.

Bill's concept is the dog work out of Fear of punishment, Ian's idea is the dog works because it wants to get a reward.

All the clients problems I get payed to fix are either a result of Koehler training ideas or people that just allow the dog to have no structure at all. Finally, Please don't let anyone try to talk you into putting a prong or shock collar on a puppy.

You're welcome to PM anytime.

Best of Luck with your new pup!

We've had dogs FOREVER, , We always house train them and get them accustomed to house life before we even really begin any training for hunting purposes. Anyways we are actually doing the training, he is guiding us along the way, he will have little interaction with the dog itself training wise.

Anyways thanks for the tips! i'm planning on reading more on those methods of training, I've heard about them before but never researched them in depth, Keep in mind I was around 7-8 when we got our current dog

Addison, although i know you probably want to avoid another name ending with the "E" sound and would probably end up calling her Addey for short.

The majority of dog training and comprehension is a matter of establishing communication with dogs. As such, the owner has as much to learn as the dog.

We had Lab years ago. Bought it when my daughter was almost two. On the way home we asked her what we should name it. Without hesitation she replied "Boomer"! My wife and I looked at each other and laughed. Boomer it shall be. Was a great dog.
