I loved every installment of Sim City. I couldn't wait for Sim City 5 to come out, but then I read about it: online only DRM, no local saves, tiny cities, etc... The crashing servers have nothing to do with my decision not to buy this game.
I'd really like to add a lot more to this post, but I don't think anything else I have to say would be appropriate here.
EA is "saying" no offline mode, will be available because they take bits of your city and send it to their servers to be rendered there and then sent back to you because the game is soooo complex, our PC's can't do it.
Whether that is there justification for the always-on internet connection, or true, remains to be seen.

I've played all the Sim City games, and most Sim games. SimCity4 was my favorite...so many mods and downloads available. Too bad SC5 looks to be pretty lame.
Unfortunately SC is just too time consuming for me anymore. It's like my Xbox, not seriously high on my list of priorities, even though I want to play badly!
If anyone is really into Sim City, you should check out www.simtropolis.com , if you haven't already heard of it.
Was about to link that lol (I once house 9 gigs of mod files on my external). I personally like 4 the most as well. I also feel your pain that it just takes up too much time to play. I want to say once a week or twice a month, I usually break it out and play for an hour. I've done this for a few years and I've basically filled my region up. I play while I watch TV and at times when I'm on the train since it's a 45 minute ride home. However, DRM can't do that with simcity 2013... I say, we get some cities posted up on here if you still have them, be it SC 1 to SC 2013.
