MODERATOR NOTE- Careful not to let this thread get into political discussion!

Personal note- I wonder if it would be cost-effective for USPS to discontinue bulk mail? I'd say that's 80% of my mail; I have NOTHING else in my own mailbox most days, and I toss it all straight into the recycling bin- doesn't even make it inside my house.

I thought maybe I should chime in here since I am a wife of a USPS carrier. My husband is the sole provider. The end to Saturday service could cause him to loose his job, causing us too loose our home, and my having to leave school. There is a lot of info that is not released to the general public. The post office has been doing everything they can so that people don't have to be laid off, and it's all not pretty. They are in a huge amount of dept, and they get nothing from the government. ALL the money comes from postage. We have been told that if he can keep his job, it may only be part time, or we would have to move to another state. That junk mail you get, mailing a check to pay your bills instead of online, and the packages sent and received are what keep my husband employed. This is a really scary situation for us and his coworkers. It's a hard physical job. My husband works outside in weather that is over 100* in the summer and well into the negatives in the winter. Where I live the mail carriers carry the mail from house to house, and don't sit in a truck (which don't have heat or AC!), to deliver to mail boxes. It's hard demanding work. My husband needs new shoes every 2 months because those soles get holes in them from the amount of walking he does every day. And everyday for the past few months comes home soaking wet and has to POOR the water out of his shoes. USPS workers are not over paid. This is a really scary situation, families are in limbo not knowing if they will have a job this summer.

Unfortunately that scenario isn't specific to the USPS. This is a tough time for millions of people, many of whom are already unemployed or underemployed.

Send a message via Yahoo to gordonrichards
USPS didn't deliver a package last Saturday that should have been delivered.
Sent via priority, postmaster wrote "no more saturday delivery" on the box.
It started already, so shippers beware!

They're cutting the delivery of mail, not packages, on Saturday.

You are all going to get mail M-Sa. The change does not take effect until August. It's not August yet.
