There are plenty of women on here! It does seem as if it is a guys forum at times, though. I wonder if there is anything we can do to encourage more women into the hobby?

I recommend you do a little strip tease for them, Gulf. At the very least, that would thin out the number of guys in here.

Two 1 GA desktops, a 5 gallon, a 2.5 gallon, a 10 gallon, a 20 gallon, a 25 gallon, and two 75 gallon tanks, all planted.
I am an expert on algae, so ask me if you have questions. I know how to grow it, just not how to get rid of it.

If that were true it would a gay forum and nobody would be talking about fish or plants.

... I believe it would pretty much clear the room across the board, haha.

LOL! Well that's the only idea I had. Looks like we will need a plan B.

i think that there are a lot of women in the hobby, and on the forum, they are just not-as-frequent-posters...
maybe if we could add a strip-tease once in a while though...

He who dares to teach must never cease to learn.

50 gallon long, killer filtration, low tech otherwise

There are more ladies here at the forum then many of you know which is why I am always harping on the language and sometimes the "bar room " descriptions of situations that I read...

There are also quite a few younger folks in here then most know as well. Thats what makes it such a special place, Its because we have men , women , young people , old people... (like Rex ) and they are from all over the world.

Thats why if we (or I ) seem harsh at times it is for a good reason.

Thankyou vlh !
The first thing I learned in life thanks to my Dad was to respect others and above all, respect women and my elders.
Each are the only reason we men can survive, he said my elders brought me here and the women allow me to stay.

All kiddin aside, Its just the way I was raised.

Buck, that is the way I was raised also. I am raising my 3 boys the same. Respect and manners, always a good policy. Takes you very far in life. Also one reason that I really appreciate this forum, not all forums are created in this manner.

Errr...you didn't include youself in there Buckster!

There are tons of ladies on the forum! Many of us just assume some posters are men.

gender, what gender?

To be sure, there are people here other than guys, it's just when we are talking fish it is hard to tell. Regardless of the handle someone uses, the gender usually shows through, but not always.

That is, guys are usually more into higher lights. But not always.
And guys are into spawning the more difficult fish. But not always.
And guys are into the techie gadgets. But not always.
And guys are eager to help through the problems they've already conquered. But not always.

So, you may hear from people who are into higher lights, difficult fish, techie gadgets and very helpful, and they are guys... or not.

So, all that is to say that we may just sound like guys, here, in cyberspace, because we have computers and we have a geeky, technical hobby. Or maybe we just make it geeky and technical because we can.

Anonapersona - those are astute observations! Do you have any corollaries that help us understand what gals sound like, or pay attention to?

(please forgive - I'm a guy, so I'm used to being totally and ridiculously transparent!)
