Eating Light

I just trimmed my Riccia and had a bumper crop. I couldn't resist taking a pic. Looks like I'll just be having a light salad for dinner tonight

I know, it's crazy what retailers ask for the stuff. The scary part is, this is only the result of harvesting half of my Riccia beds. The other 50% is due for a trim too, but I didn't have the time or the space for holding it. Right now I've got a ball of Riccia the size of a human brain floating in a hairnet in my grow-out tank:

Weighs about a pound

Can you say aquabid? Post that picture right there. My guess is it will go for around $25-$30

Are we talking about the street value of Riccia here? This is starting to sound like a bad Miami Vice episode

Well hey, man, in the right 'hood you can get a lot more for the stuff. Just make sure it is pure and isn't laced with some java moss or nuthin.

LOL! Wouldn't want to get caught selling stepped-on Riccia would I.

A year ago, you could buy a car with what you would have gotten for that ball of Riccia. The Riccia market has settled down so $30 sounds about right.

You better do something with it quick because the way it is wrapped in that big ball , the center of it will die FAST ! Small balls are OK but that thing might as well be the center of the Earth with its size and without the light it will wilt and rot a lot quicker then you think... as you can tell I have murdered it that way myself in the past.

If you ever wonder why the online shops sell it for so much just go and try to buy it somewhere in quantity (50 to 100 lbs of it). A large portion of it is dead by the time you get it if you try and import it. Riccia may be easily found on Aquabid but then there are a 1000 different people growing it and none in commercial quantities.
