Hey All,
I'm Chris, I'm a 29 year old Mechanical Engineer living in New Orleans, LA. I'm essentially new to the hobby, haven't had a tank since I was about 15 or 16, so trying to absorb as much information as I can before pulling the trigger on equipment/plants/fish. I have been wanting to bring some plant life into my office which got me started on the path to a planted tank. It progressed to considering the old style beta bowls with a plant growing out of the top. Combining my love of the water with a plant for my office. Then I realized I wanted something filtered and a bit larger, which got me thinking of a planted tank. Funny how things progress from a few $5-10 plants to a full planted tank setup (damn the internet!).
I've settled on my first tank, a Fluval Spec V, I'm drawn to the all in one nature of the tank and have found it for a pretty good price online. Next, I'm gathering information to really get my build going. I will link to a build/journal/question thread once I get that thread going!
I will definitely be needing suggestions on fish stocking, plant selection, substrate, and fertilizers etc.
The tank will start off low-tech and as I gain experience I'll possibly transition to high-tech.
Looking forward to learning as much as I can about this hobby and hopefully becoming a bigger contributor to this community as I progress!
