Help me decide my 40b driftwood layout

Here are 2 layouts so far. The pics are bad and don't do either layout justice. Not sure what plants im going with. I just scribbled green in for viewing purposes.

Thoughts?

And yes thats sweet paneling.

I will rough up the end of the piece thats going to stick out of the water to look like it broke.

1st setup is better, just my opinion though.

K, #1 it is. Those of you who have experience. These are all separate pieces. Is it better to stainless steel screw them all together before or after I soak them? I want to say before but it might get tough soaking something that big...though I do need to do a leak test in the aquarium so I may kill 2 birds with one stone.
